USYD Finish Regular Season 5-1 with Split Results Against UWA

Both USYD Men and Women have finished the 2021 University Basketball League (UBL) regular season with 5-1 records following mixed results against The University of Western Australia (UWA).

The USYD Men’s unbeaten record came to end as they suffered a 98-101 loss to a hot UWA side containing plenty of NBL1 West talent.

Leading by as much as 17 in the first half, USYD struggled to consolidate on its early lead as UWA outscored the home side by 21 points across Q2 and Q3 to lead by 9 at the final break.

A spirited effort in Q4 saw USYD take the lead late before UWA guard Rhys Hohenstein hit a go-ahead 3 with just 5 seconds remaining on the clock to seal the win for UWA.

Ben Fakira (24 points, 13 rebounds), Henry Anderson (18 points, 72.7% FG), Ryan Abbott (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Parker Dale (16 points, 9 rebounds) were standout performers for USYD.

Despite losing their Round 1 clash with USC, USYD Women have now won 5 games straight following their 75-49 win over UWA.

Leading from start to finish, USYD performed strongly at both ends of the court as the likes of Lara Warner and Maddie O’Hehir dominated proceedings.

Holly Wills also returned to the starting lineup following an injury that saw her miss last week’s fixture against UTS.

With one round of the UBL season remaining (USYD bye), USYD teams begin preparations for finals (June 1st & 2nd @ USYD) while next week’s fixtures determine final seeding.
