USYD Men & Women Confirm UBL Finals Spot Following Wins Over UTS
The second day of a UBL home double-header at Sydney University saw USYD welcome crosstown rivals UTS to campus for the first time since last year’s intervarsity series.
In the opening fixture of the day, USYD women put together a comprehensive display, defeating UTS 71-55.
The win sees USYD women move to outright 1st in the UBL, having only dropped their opening fixture to The University of the Sunshine Coast.
Strong individual performances were common across the team, with the likes of Katie Castle and Inez Tanoi putting in standout showings.
The men’s fixture was the standout game of the UBL season so far, with USYD claiming a come-from-behind 81-78 win in OT.
Trailing for the majority of the 2nd half, guard Olly Bowman hit a huge 3-point shot with 30 seconds remaining to level scores.
UTS ran out to an early lead in OT before forward Ryan Abbott hit the game-winning, go-ahead 3-pointer with just 1.4 seconds remaining.
Sydney Uni Basketball’s attention now turns to next Tuesday as we welcome the University of Western Australia to campus for the final regular season UBL fixture.
