Bowman & Calleia voted Southern Design IV MVPs
Following the conclusion of the Inter-Varsity Series between USYD and UTS, Oliver Bowman and Sherrie Calleia have been voted the respective men’s and women’s Southern Design Inter-Varsity MVPs.
Bowman led USYD in scoring from the very beginning of the series, contributing 24 points in his side’s Game 1 win, where he claimed a maximum six votes. Bowman didn’t slow down as the series progressed, scoring another 24 and 29 points in the final two games of the series.
Following Bowman, USYD guard Robbie Moore almost stole the MVP award with a huge 41-point Game 4, which saw Moore poll maximum votes.
For UTS, votes were spread amongst their talented quartet of Reggie Ridlen, Alex Higgins-Titsha, Jock Jensen and Thomas Daus.
In the women’s series, Calleia’s (UTS) consistent performances saw her win the series’ MVP comfortably, followed by teammate Maddy Norris.
Calleia, a current Sydney Uni Flames Development Squad member, dominated the series from start to finish, orchestrating UTS’ sweep of the women’s series from the guard position.
Calleia averaged 18 points across her four games, distancing herself from Norris in the voting following her 18-10-7 (points, rebounds, assists) performance in Game 3 of the series. Calleia polled maximum (twelve) votes in the final two games.
Despite missing Game 2, Annie Henderson led USYD in the voting, closely followed by USYD debutant Lara Warner.
Bowman and Calleia will take home an annual Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness Gold Membership, permitting them access to all SUSF facilities on campus including both SUSAC and Arena gyms, the SUSAC pool, group fitness classes, RPM studio, boxing gym, and most importantly, the basketball courts at Brydens Stadium.
Coaches from both USYD and UTS voted for the best players across both teams following each game. Each coach submitted a 3-2-1 vote card, with votes compiled at the end of the series by staff.
