Game 3 Report: USYD Bounce Back

The third round of the Inter-Varsity Series between USYD and UTS saw a return to form for both USYD sides.

In the women’s game, USYD bounced back from a tough 48-point loss in Game 2, but were still unable to beat a strong UTS side. The final margin was 8 points.

The return of Annie Henderson (14 points) to the starting line up in Game 3 saw USYD improve their defensive efforts, along with strong contributions from Katie Castle (15 points) and Alysha Skerritt.

For UTS, Sherrie Calleia, Geena Valos and Maddy Norris were once again standout performers, scoring 66 of the team’s 79 points.

Despite falling to an insurmountable 0-3 series record, the USYD women’s side have continued to develop as a squad, with a number of first-year students enjoying their first taste of inter-varsity sport.

The USYD men’s team took a commanding 2-1 series lead following their 6-point win over UTS on Monday.

Olly Bowman (21 points) and Robbie Moore (13 points) were once again among USYD’s best players, with Nick Feng (12 points) also putting in a standout performance to help guide USYD to the gritty win.

Alex Titsha-Higgins was UTS’ strongest performer, further establishing himself as one of the front-runners for the Southern Design Inter-Varsity MVP.

The final round of the series is just around the corner, with both the women’s and men’s side set to face-off at UTS’ Ross Millbourne Sports Hall on Thursday 1st October.
