Holly Wills Commits to Sydney Uni Basketball High Performance Program
Sydney Uni Basketball are excited to announce NSW representative Holly Wills as the latest local prospect to commit to the new High Performance Program in 2021.
Wills joins Sydney Uni Basketball following a standout 2020 on the court, having been named in the Waratah 1 Youth League All-Star 5 for her key role in Manly-Warringah’s championship-winning team. Wills also played a pivotal role in Manly-Warringah’s Waratah 1 women’s side, which reached the semi-finals for the first time since 2017.
Wills was also recently selected in the 2021 NSW U20 squad, having also previously represented NSW at U16 and U18 levels. In the recent Shelley Gorman Invitational, Wills relished the opportunity to represent the NSW U20 team against some of Australia’s best basketballers in Leilani Mitchell, Lauren Nicholson and Shyla Heal.
Off the court, Wills will begin studying a Bachelor of Arts & Advanced Studies at Sydney University.
“I'm so excited to have the opportunity to compete in a competitive environment with such an experienced and pronounced coach, Renae Garlepp,” said Wills.
“Attending Sydney University gives me the chance to pursue my passion for basketball along side other elite athletes, whilst also attaining a higher level of education. I’m grateful for the prospects and pathways the new High Performance Program offers and can’t wait to see where it takes me.”
Wills becomes the third talented NSW prospect, alongside Ryan Abbott and Inez Tanoi, to join the Sydney Uni Basketball High Performance Program in 2021.
“We’re thrilled to see Holly begin her studies here at Sydney University,” said Head Coach Renae Garlepp.
“Holly is a great player at both ends of floor, possessing a brilliant work ethic, which I’m sure will have a positive influence on both her teammates and our overall team environment.”
The Sydney Uni Basketball High Performance Program is designed to provide additional opportunities (on top of traditional club and state/national program commitments) to squad members, ensuring their studies and future are can be adequately supported while they continue to develop on the court. By providing opportunities to represent Sydney University in competitions such as the UBL, squad members will also benefit from the chance to play against talented basketballers across the country, gaining additional exposure in Australia’s basketball landscape.
