NSW Representative Inez Tanoi Joins Sydney Uni Basketball

NSW Representative Inez Tanoi is set to represent Sydney University in the inaugural University Basketball League (UBL), following her commitment to the Sydney Uni Basketball High Performance Program in 2021.

Tanoi, who plays locally with the City of Sydney Comets, joins Sydney Uni Basketball following a successful junior career, where she represented NSW at U16 and U18 level, whilst also being selected for this year’s U20 NSW squad.

Head Coach Renae Garlepp, who has worked closely with Tanoi at state level, was thrilled to see the young NSW prospect join Sydney Uni Basketball.

“It’s great to have Inez joining the new Sydney Uni Basketball High Performance Program this year,” said Garlepp.

“Inez is a tenacious defender, who is also very smart offensively. We’re very lucky to add such a great person both on and off the court.”

Tanoi, who will begin studying a Bachelor of Social Work this year, has also recently spent time on campus as a member of the 2019 Emerging Flames Academy, relishing opportunities to train with the Brydens Sydney Uni Flames.

"I’m super excited about attending Sydney University with the launch of their new High Performance Program. It will open up new opportunities to strengthen my game by playing with and against some amazing players across the country,” said Tanoi.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with Renae and learning from her vast personal experiences in basketball as a player and a coach. Sydney University appealed to me because it will allow me to balance both my studies with my sport at a high level."

Tanoi joins Ryan Abbott, and a number of young, talented NSW basketball prospects who have chosen to continue their basketball development locally with Sydney Uni Basketball.
