Basketball Club Set to Compete in SUSF Lunchtime Comp

As the Sydney Uni Basketball Club continues to grow over O-Week, members are now preparing for a return to competitive action in Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness’ (SUSF) Lunchtime Competition.

Competing on both Wednesdays and Fridays during semester, the Basketball Club will provide its members with opportunities to develop on the court in an organised setting with fellow friends and members. Catering for players of all experiences and abilities, we can’t wait to see members (new and old) back on the court this semester.

Michael Yoong Commits to 2021 High performance Program

Rounding out the Sydney Uni Basketball High Performance Program recruiting class of 2021 is NSW guard Michael Yoong.

Yoong joins Sydney Uni Basketball having excelled both on and off the court in recent years, representing the likes of NSW Metro, Knox Grammar and Northern Suburbs Basketball Association.

Playing for NSW, Yoong won bronze at the U18 Australian Basketball Championships in Townsville, and was recently selected in the U20 NSW squad set to play at the 2021 Australian Basketball Championships.

Locally, Yoong was a member of Knox Grammar’s PEAK program, designed to support and assist high performing student-athletes considering a career in elite sport to achieve excellence in their chosen sport, while achieving their best academically.

Sydney Uni Basketball Sign Matt Wacher to High Performance Program

Matt Wacher has joined Sydney Uni Basketball following an impressive junior career which saw the local prospect represent both NSW and Australia.

Wacher captained the U16 NSW Metro team to bronze at the Australian U16 Championships in 2018, leading to his selection for the U15 Australia team that won gold at the FIBA Oceania Championships in Papua New Guinea.

More recently, Wacher was selected in the U18 and U20 NSW Metro team set to compete at the 2020 and 2021 Australian Championships (canceled due to COVID-19 pandemic). Despite not getting the chance to represent NSW at these levels, Wacher was recently selected in the AAGPS Firsts Team after leading Scots College to the AAGPS Championship last year.

Abbott Selected for U19 Australia FIBA World Cup Camp

New Sydney Uni Elite Athlete Program member Ryan Abbott has bee selected for the upcoming U19 Australia team camp, which will prepare squad members for this year’s U19 FIBA World Cup.

Preparations commence for the 2021 FIBA U19 Basketball World Cups with a preliminary camp to be held at the Centre of Excellence from February 27 – March 2.
